Since spring 2019, the Serbian Ethnic Legacy Organization (SELO) has spearheaded the Radna Akcija community initiative. The name, meaning youth work action, hails from a mass collective labour action organized by former Yugoslavia after WWII.
Here in the Niagara Region, Radna Akcija unites a group of passionate members and volunteers to maintain local Serbian-owned community hubs. This falls in line with SELO's mandate to support the local Serbian community. Throughout the past two years, efforts have been focused on property maintenance for the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Niagara Falls. Each week, a team of youthful volunteers rallied to help with landscaping, tree-removal, wood-cutting, installations, and other ground maintenance for the church. This has resulted in a thriving hub for the Serbian community at St. George Church.
Radna Akcija runs from early spring until early fall. Follow SELO on Instagram for the latest updates about Radna Akcija 2021.
